OUR HISTORY The dream of Beacon Prep began when its founder, Barbara McGowan, realized the need for a Christian school that not only served children with developmental and learning differences, but also helped all children reach their full potential by recognizing and teaching to individual learning styles.
In October of 2007 Dr. Frank Lawlis and Barbara filmed a short segment for the local CBS station's morning show to inform the public of Beacon's plans. The overwhelming response made it obvious that the need for Beacon was even greater than originally thought. Not only did parents respond, but we also received a tremendous response from the business community offering to help make Beacon a reality.
We are now in the early stages of creating something that will be a light in the dark to our children and, most importantly, will stand as a testimony that even though a vision may seem out of reach, with God all things are possible.
MISSION Our mission is to provide a healthy, intellectually stimulating, Christ centered learning environment in Louisiana where all children can discover their unique, God given gifts and talents, while being guided through any challenges they may face. By achieving this, our students will become lifelong learners who are well rounded, caring, and confident that they can make a difference by finding and following the path God has intended for them.
VISION Our vision is to create a Christian education and development facility that will not only help children grow intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually, but will also provide a resource where entire families can learn together and be guided through the challenges that come with having a child that is learning or developmentally different.
Beacon Prep Christian School will open a door for families. Beacon will open the door to a place of endless possibilities and discovery. School will be a place children look to with anticipation, a place where they feel accepted, loved, and secure, and a place where they know they are special, if for no other reason, simply because they are each one of God's unique creations.
